Cajamarca is located in the highlands of northern Peru, in the western chain of the Andes where it encompasses the mountain and jungle areas.

It is known for its celebration of carnival, and other religious festivals such as Corpus Christi and Holy Week. It also stands out for its important production of milk and dairy products. It is also known as the Flower of Cumbe, due to its proximity to the hill and the archaeological complex of Cumbemayo.
